Introducing SYS ED Jim Seavey

By Somerville Youth Soccer 06/01/2021, 12:15pm EDT

Seavey joins SYS as first ED after a long career in college athletics

Somerville Youth Soccer is delighted to introduce Jim Seavey as the organization's first Executive Director. As ED, Seavey will report to the Board of Directors’ Executive Committee. He will be the public face of the organization and perform key administrative and fundraising duties.

"Bringing in a talented and experienced person like Jim to be Somerville Youth Soccer's first-ever Executive Director is a major step forward for us. I expect this to help continue growing our membership in the player, coach, and administrator ranks. Jim has hit the ground running and I can't wait to see what he can do in the role," said SYS President Jake Wilson.

After leaning heavily on volunteer presidents assuming an increasing workload in recent years, the SYS board determined the organization’s best interests required a professional Executive Director. A months-long hiring process yielded an excellent applicant pool and stellar finalists, with Seavey accepting the offer of employment, beginning May 10.

"I'm incredibly excited and honored to serve as the first Executive Director in the history of Somerville Youth Soccer, and I am very thankful to the Board of Directors for their trust and confidence in me," said Seavey. "The organization has a rich history of impacting the lives of countless families over generations, and the hard work of our volunteer coaches and administrators has helped impart invaluable life lessons that have made the community stronger. I look forward to working with everyone in the Somerville community to enhance the present and shape the bright future of our organization."

Seavey comes to SYS after a long career in college athletics communication and administration. A Marquette graduate, he worked in academic administration at his alma mater, then in athletics administration at colleges in the Midwest and New England. Most recently, Seavey was Director of Athletic Communications at UMass Dartmouth.

Seavey is a father of two and resides in Bridgewater with his wife, Cheryl, a girls basketball coach at Bridgewater-Raynham High School. He is an ardent fan of the game and a supporter of West Ham United in England’s Premier League.
