Registration is open for Somerville Youth Soccer's Spring 2021 season!
Our spring programs will look a great deal like this past fall, with the key exception that our Travel-age teams will be playing games in Middlesex Youth Soccer League (MYSL), our travel league.
The success of the travel friendlies in the fall season combined with the roughly 83,000 kids who played soccer through Mass Youth Soccer this fall without a single known transmission led Somerville to join other nearby towns in resuming league play this spring.
Just as in the fall, registration fees remain unchanged from last year. Regular registration will run through March 31, after which point a $30 late registration fee will apply.
Please note: In accordance with Massachusetts regulations, masks will be required at all times for players except when taking a physically-distanced hydration break. All coaches and spectators are required to wear masks and maintain physical distancing at absolutely all times.
Full information on our programs is available here.
If you're shopping for a gift this December to show your support of Somerville Youth Soccer, there are two options this year:
SquadLocker is an official partner of our website and mobile app provider, SportsEngine. From scarves to caps to fleeces and winter jackets, they offer a huge variety of screened and embroidered merchandise with the full-color SYS badge. SquadLocker currently has some holiday favorites on marked down 20% for the season, and five percent of every purchase comes back to SYS!
Note: For those celebrating Christmas, SquadLocker is advising that orders of customized items be placed by December 6 in order to guarantee delivery by December 24.
Also our current uniform provider, Challenger Teamwear's SYS shop also carries a selection of fan gear. The Under Armour Hustle Fleece Hoodie in particular has garnered rave reviews from those who have purchased it.
Somerville Youth Soccer is offering open play sessions organized by age group on Saturdays and Sundays in December, January, and February, when the weather and field conditions allow for soccer. These will be opportunities for players to play soccer, with minimal or no coaching instruction.
All Grade 1 and older players registered for our recent Fall 2020 season are eligible to participate.
These sessions will use the same COVID protocols and policies as our summer and fall programs, with masks required at all times for all players, coaches, and spectators -- with the sole exception of when players are drinking water, physically distanced from others.
This winter programming will take place as long as the City of Somerville deems outdoor youth soccer to be advisable.
Players will need to RSVP in advance for these sessions in the SportsEngine mobile app for potential contact tracing purposes and should not attend if they or a family member is experiencing COVID symptoms or has been exposed to COVID.
Sessions for Grades 1 & 2 will take place at East Somerville Field, while Travel-age sessions will take place at Capuano Field.
In order for a session to go ahead, there will need to be two credentialed adults on hand to facilitate play and ensure COVID compliance by participants.
Players should bring the following to an open play session:
- weather-appropriate clothing and footwear
- light & dark shirts (or blue & red SYS shirts or bibs/pinnies)
- two (2) clean, dry earloop masks suitable for athletic use (no N95 masks)
- filled water bottle
Please watch your SportsEngine mobile app for scheduling information and updates, as the status of these sessions is subject to (late) change.
