Somerville Youth Soccer is excited to announce the appointment of former Wheaton College standout Shawn McCall as the organization’s second Academy Instructor.  Coach Shawn will team up with Kevin Connolly to provide roving practice instruction throughout the fall and spring seasons for our travel program, which will also include player evaluations for each cohort.

A native of Sammamish, Washington, Coach Shawn played in 52 career games at the Norton-based school, where he collected six goals and two assists for 14 career points as both a midfielder and striker.  A New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference Player of the Week honoree as a junior, he netted the game-winning goal in a victory over league rival MIT in September 2018 and added a tally against defending NCAA Division III national champion Tufts in the same month. 

Coach Shawn has also assisted with youth soccer programs in his native Washington State as well as in Hawaii, where he coached at the club level.  A two-sport athlete in high school at The Overlake School, he graduated from Wheaton in 2020 with a degree in computer science & business and management and recently moved to Somerville.

“It’s a great pleasure to welcome Shawn into the SYS community,” Somerville Youth Soccer President Dominic Lachowicz said of McCall’s appointment.  “His background at the youth, club, and collegiate levels will enhance the positive experience for both our players and coaches, and we are looking forward to having him on board.”

“Our organization will benefit greatly from the dynamic that Coach Shawn and Coach Kevin will bring to this important position,” SYS Director of Soccer Gregory Janks said.  “Their expertise will play a key role in the continued growth and development of both our players and coaches, and I am looking forward to working with them this season and beyond.”

Somerville Youth Soccer se complace en anunciar el nombramiento del ex destacado de Wheaton College, Shawn McCall, como el segundo instructor de la academia de la organización.  El entrenador Shawn se asociará con Kevin Connolly para proporcionar instrucción de práctica itinerante durante las temporadas de otoño y primavera para nuestro programa de viajes, que también incluirá evaluaciones de jugadores para cada cohorte.

Nativo de Sammamish, Washington, el entrenador Shawn jugó en 52 partidos en su carrera en la escuela con sede en Norton, donde acumuló seis goles y dos asistencias para 14 puntos en su carrera como mediocampista y delantero.  Galardonado como Jugador de la Semana de la Conferencia Atlética Femenina y Masculina de Nueva Inglaterra como junior, anotó el gol de la victoria en una victoria sobre su rival de la liga MIT en septiembre de 2018 y agregó una cuenta contra el campeón nacional defensor de la División III de la NCAA, Tufts, en el mismo mes. 

El entrenador Shawn también ha ayudado con programas de fútbol juvenil en su estado natal de Washington, así como en Hawái, donde entrenó a nivel de clubes.  Atleta de dos deportes en la escuela secundaria en The Overlake School, se graduó de Wheaton en 2020 con un título en ciencias de la computación y negocios y administración y recientemente se mudó a Somerville.
