B78 Blue, B11+ Blue Advance After Capturing MYSL Commissioner's Cup Crowns

Somerville Youth Soccer will send a pair of representatives to the 2023 Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) next weekend, as B78 Blue and B11+ Blue captured respective team titles at the Middlesex Youth Soccer League’s (MYSL) Commissioner’s Cup tournament on Sunday afternoon at Progin Park in Lancaster.

B78 Blue, under the guidance of Head Coach Todd Swango and assistant coaches Will MartinLiz Shea & Geren Stone, defeated Burlington 5-2 in the Division 2 semifinals before avenging its lone setback of the season with a 3-2 triumph over Reading in the title game.  B78 Blue will take an overall mark of 10-1 into its MTOC opener on Friday morning back at Progin Park against the Nashoba Valley representative beginning at 9:50 am.

B11+ Blue reached the final after dispatching Wilmington in its opener by a 4-1 margin, as the squad led by Head Coach Dean Williams and assistant coaches Jake Wilson & Kevin Connolly advanced past Stoneham to claim the crown.  B11+ Blue will take an 8-1 overall record into its MTOC lid-lifter on Friday afternoon against the Nashoba Valley wild card at Progin Park beginning at 2:20 pm.

SYS had a total of seven teams competing over the weekend at the MYSL Commissioner’s Cup, as B56 Orange finished as the runner-up in Division 5 with a 1-1-1 mark in pool play.  B4 Blue and G78 Red registered a pair of ties in pool competition, while both B56 Blue and G78 Blue fell in the semifinals of their respective divisions.
