Somerville Youth Soccer welcomed over 30 members and guests to its 2023 Annual General Meeting on Wednesday evening at Boynton Yards.  SYS President Dominic Lachowicz reviewed the organization’s achievements over the past year and outlined a comprehensive strategic plan & objectives for the coming 2023-24 year.

Director’s reports from the Treasurer, Registrar, Director of Soccer, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion were presented as part of the meeting, which also included reports on the Tom Heinz Genesis Referee Program along with an update from all three (Tykes, In-Town & Travel) SYS programs.  Executive Director Jim Seavey also presented a summary report on the year, including an update on the organization’s community and strategic partnerships with several businesses & entities in the city and throughout the region.

Longtime SYS coaches Steve & Leo Ortiz were presented with the 2023 Andrew Platt Above & Beyond Awards for their outstanding service to the organization, while the late Tom Heinz was recognized with the 2023 Jake Wilson Leadership Award for his tireless work with officials in the city and the region.  Members of the Heinz family were in attendance to accept the honor, which was presented by Lachowicz and Officiating Coordinator John Sanders.

The 2023-24 SYS Board of Directors slate, including the seven members of the governing Executive Committee, was ratified by the membership.  All new board members begin their respective positions on July 1st.
