Mask mandate lifted for players actively playing or physically distanced

Effective immediately, Somerville Youth Soccer is updating our mask policy in compliance with updated guidance from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA), Mass Youth Soccer, and the City of Somerville.

Players
Players actively engaged in soccer training or games do NOT need to wear a mask. Players wishing to continue wearing masks are allowed to do so.

Players not actively engaging in soccer training or games (i.e. participating in a team meeting or huddle, on the sidelines, or arriving/departing from the facility) do NOT need to wear a mask IF they are able to maintain six (6) feet of physical distance from all others. If this physical distance cannot be maintained, players should wear a mask.

Coaches
The lifting of the mask mandate applies only to youth players. Therefore, ALL coaches -- regardless of vaccination status or age -- MUST continue to wear masks and maintain six feet of physical distance from everyone at ALL times until May 29.

Spectators
While the EEA and Mass Youth Soccer recently adopted a policy allowing spectators to remove their masks while stationary and watching soccer, The City of Somerville has opted NOT to relax the mask mandate for spectators at youth sports events here in our city. Therefore, ALL spectators -- regardless of vaccination status -- must continue to wear masks and maintain six feet of physical distance from all non-family members at all times while at SYS events until May 29.

Thank you for your compliance with this and your continued vigilance as we look to keep soccer a low-risk outlet for kids in our city.
