Join us Sept. 20 for our New Travel Family Orientation via Zoom

Normally there is a Field Evaluation Day as part of the In-Town Jamboree at Capuano Field on the final Saturday of the spring season. And while kids are doing their field evaluation, families gather for a New Travel Family Orientation.

These orientation sessions can be very helpful when it comes to explaining this new world of travel soccer with its two practices per week, rostering by skill level, 7v7 games, and games against (and in!) other towns. There also is a Q&A session at the end to give parents a chance to ask any remaining questions.

But this was not possible this year on account of the global pandemic, so a virtual meeting has been planned.

If your family already is registered for this fall season, still on the fence, or had forgotten entirely about soccer with everything else going on, you are invited to a virtual New Travel Family Orientation.

The New Travel Family Orientation will take place via Zoom on Sunday, September 20 at 7:00 PM.

If your family is on the fence about travel soccer, this fall is the absolute perfect way to test those waters. Normally Grade 3 players  are tossed into the deep end, with travel games (often against experienced Grade 4 teams) right away.  This fall can serve as a more transitional experience, where Grade 3 players learn the very different tactics and positional responsibilities of the 7v7 game without the pressure of competitive travel games.

Girls Grade 3 (G3) players are grouped into one large group for the first few weeks of this season. And on the Boys Grade 3 (B3) side, both teams are practicing on the same field at the same time. Both B3 and G3 are playing intramural games on Saturdays so they can get plenty of practice against each other. For families who are comfortable with playing teams from nearby towns with similar or lower COVID case rates to Somerville (with masks!), there is the option of some friendly games this fall as well.
